" I was so excited when Shirley and Sam asked me to dye four exclusive colourways

for Karelia House. And even more excited when they chose two of my favourite

fibre bases - wonderful 100% Superwash Merino and a beautiful blend of 50% Baby

Camel/ 50% Silk which is totally scrumptious.

" The yarn was dyed using acid dyes which are used for dying protein fibres and

nylon. These can be used on fibres such as wool, angora, cashmere, mohair,

alpaca and of course, silk. So basically any animal fibres.

The dyes are made up to the desired colour and applied in stages and the yarn

is then heated to set the dye. "

Skeins of yarn dyed in the same pan will all be different and it is recommended

that when using more than one skein for your project, you alternate skeins

every few rows in order to get more consistency in colour.

When dying yarn, I love to see how different fibres take on the same dye. Some

will be very bright and some will be muted.

All are a wonderful surprise!

Hand dying is fairly labour intensive and I like to use the best quality yarn

along with luxury fibres. This can make hand dyed yarn seem expensive but why

not use the best materials for a special project that you are going to spend

many hours producing?
